Opening up membership from just St. Theresa parishioners to include any Catholic young adults from Austin expanded the group’s members and increased participation, allowing those young adults who attend churches without a young adult ministry an avenue to grow in their faith and meet other Catholic young adults.
Forming a Leadership Team changed the direction of the ministry in that it allowed a group of people from different backgrounds and levels of spirituality to focus on the different goals of the ministry.
The first retreat, which led into small groups, changed the direction of the ministry, reaffirming the group’s focus on being not only a social group, but more importantly, a spiritual group.
Small groups, being a weekly commitment, provided the most spiritual growth for the ministry. It allowed open faith discussions among a small number of people (10-15) and was thus able to provide spiritual nourishment for the various spirituality levels in the ministry.
With the spiritual direction of a priest, this issue was resolved by the Leadership Team upon reaffirming the ministry’s mission statement to strictly minister to those young adults between the ages of 20 to 30.
