A group of six to 12 individuals who get together once a week for a couple hours to share their life experiences and grow in their faith while getting to know group members.
The main components of small groups are reflection and education, mutual support and caring, prayer and worship, Scripture and service to one another, to the parish and to others.
Small groups help us to discover and honor our own life experiences and to connect them to our faith through sharing on the scriptures.
Who is invited to join a small group? You are invited! Anyone who would enjoy the benefits of belonging to a small group, some of which are:
participating in a personal, supportive environment with a sense of belonging;
having the opportunity to be listened to in a trusting and non-judgemental atmosphere;
sharing your life and faith experiences;
deepening your own sense of the connection of life and faith;
being able to meet people from the 20-Somethings ministry;
having your abilities and talents encouraged and appreciated;
feeling supported during trying times and sharing joys during happy times.
Why should I join a small group?
You will understand the Bible better in a small group. If you've ever listened to a priest and wanted to stop them and ask, "But what about ...?" or "I don't understand!" then a small group is for you. In a small group, you can ask questions, participate in a discussion of the text, and hear other insights and illustrations of truth. Applying the Bible to your own personal situations happens best in small groups.
You will experience being the part of God's family that you are. Most people who have been a part of a small group say the greatest benefit is the close relationships that develop. They will frequently telephone each other during the week to share an urgent prayer request or an encouraging answer.
Prayer becomes more meaningful to you. Many folks are hesitant to pray in front of others. In a small group of six to 12 you learn to participate in prayer by having a conversation together with God.
You will be able to handle stress and pressure better. Small groups provide excellent support in times of crisis, change and stress. You'll have a sense of stability and security knowing there are people who really care about you and are committed to standing with you.
