Monday Topic Based Small Group Print
Hosted by Christine Songy

*What is a small group?*
   - A group of six to 12 individuals who get together once a week for a couple hours to share their life experiences and grow in their faith while getting to know group members.    - The main components of small groups are reflection and education, mutual support and caring, prayer and worship, Scripture and service to one another, to the parish and to others.    - Small groups help us to discover and honor our own life experiences and to connect them to our faith.

"When do small groups meet?
This time around we will again be having two topic-based groups and one book-based group, all of which are co-ed.  However, one of the topic groups is switching to Tuesday.  So, now we'll have one topic-based group that meets on Monday nights and then both a topic-based group and a book-based group that meet on Tuesday nights.  Each group is free to choose what time the meetings start and end, but generally they run from 7:30pm to 9pm, just to give you an idea."

*Who is invited to join a small group?*
You are invited!  Anyone who would enjoy the benefits of belonging to a small group, some of which are:
   - participating in a personal, supportive environment with a sense of belonging;
   - having the opportunity to be listened to in a trusting and non-judgmental atmosphere;
   - sharing your life and faith experiences;
   - deepening your own sense of the connection of life and faith;
   - being able to meet people from the 20-Somethings ministry;
   - having your abilities and talents encouraged and appreciated;
   - feeling supported during trying times and sharing joys during happy times.

*Why should I join a small group?*
   - You will hopefully develop a better understanding of our Catholic faith in a small group.  If you've ever listened to a priest and wanted to stop them and ask, "But what about ...?" or "I don't understand!" then a small group is for you.  In a small group, you can ask questions, participate in a discussion of a text, and hear other insights and illustrations of truth. Applying the Bible/the faith to your own personal situations happens best in small groups.
   - You will experience being the part of God's family that you are. Most people who have been a part of a small group say the greatest benefit is the close relationships that develop. They will frequently telephone each other during the week to share an urgent prayer request or an encouraging answer.
   - Prayer becomes more meaningful to you. Many folks are hesitant to pray in front of others. In a small group of six to 12 you learn to participate in prayer by having a conversation together with God.
   - You will be able to handle stress and pressure better. Small groups provide excellent support in times of crisis, change and stress. You'll have a sense of stability and security knowing there are people who really care about you and are committed to standing with you.
